My Travels by Books

Hello everyone! In April of 2021 I started my bookish travel around the world. In The Netherlands, where I'm from, we have a lot of translated literature available (as we are such a small country ourselves, I guess). So I've always read a lot of books that were not originally written in Dutch. But in April, I decided to start tracking my journey; partly because of COVID - which prevented real life travel - and partly because I was inspired by other people doing the same.

Read and Learn

Apart from reading books about, and preferable also from, every country in the world, I also wanted to learn about the country I would be reading about. So I read up on it's Wiki, I search for documentaries, non-fiction books and other materials that can inform me on it. It makes my reading experience so much richer!

Countries visited

I follow no particular order, because I'm a mood reader and I don't want to be fixed too much.

My journey started in Iceland, where I experienced how a sheep farmer in rural Iceland fought for his independence. After that, a child soldier showed me the horrors of war. In Italy, I got to feel what it was like for the aristocracy during the Risorgimento. Scotland showed me poverty and abuse, close up and personal. Every story thought me new things about the country and about the world.
